This is the first post to an article series of 3 very special posts about blogging:

  • Why Blogging Is Not Popular (This post)
  • Ways to Improve Blogging (coming up this week)
  • How to Make Blogging Popular with Just One Word ! (coming up next week)

This is a very special post about blogging and it is a very special post about language. It will show a way in that the word blogging can be made more popular amongst English speakers.

It is a common fact that language is a living creature. The more language is used the more it will alter. It will alter in the sense that words will be added and others will be changed or even get rid off. The latest example is the verb to google which was also officially included into the German language. Shortly after, its lexical entry was extended with to google sth. or to google sb. This verb was added because of Google’s popularity. It is the most known Search marketing brand in the web. It is the most used search-engine in the web.

The verb to blog was also added recently, but it is of definitely less importance than to google. The word Blog is inferior to Google. Now, why is that?

It is not that blogging is not wide spread. There are over 70 million blogs around the world. It’s not that blogging is not known non-bloggers. Boulevard magazines, journals and newspapers have had blogs on their sites for years. It’s not that blogging is too expensive. You can get your own domain and webspace for less that 20 Dollars per year.

But what is it then? Firstly, it is a fact that there are only few blogs that are kept alive. A lot of people start a blog and lose the fun in it pretty soon. I will call this the “Dead-Blog-Syndrome” which means that you can find a majority of blogs that don’t have (a good) content anymore. Anther form of the DBS is that other bloggers might not have anything like a blogging-rhythm and publicize only 3-4 articles per year. In my opinion it is not possible to write something so good that people will wait 6 months to read it, if it’s a post in a blog. Secondly, it might be that bloggers (without a few exceptions, of course) are not professional writers. Only constantly learning bloggers will develop a writing style their readership will appreciate. Learning by blogging – there we are.

Blogging is a far more complex business than that of Google. Google is a brand, a name, a service.

Blogging is more than just searching for information. Blogging is giving and receiving information on a personal basis. Blogging is not only writing. It is also reading what others think about a certain topic. It is commenting on their posts, writing a response post, setting trackbacks, socialize, and so on.

Yes, you are allowed to quote that last bit :-))
